The Transformation of Queens Mega Development, Affordable Housing and Zoning Roundtable & Networking

Green Building Worldwide for a dynamic Queens Mega Development Roundtable and Networking Reception scheduled for September 19, 2019 in Midtown covering Flushing Point Plaza, Sunnyside Yard, Willets Point Development, Rikers Island Redevelopment update and the resulting Borough Based Detention Plan.

Many Queens New York neighborhoods, historically, known for high rate of foreclosure and low rate of economic development are now realizing new residential and commercial development en masse and reaping the benefits of municipal investments, the affordability mandate, redevelopment and rezoning.

  • Flushing Point Plaza

  • Willets Point Development

  • Sunnyside Yard

  • Update on the Rikers Island Redevelopment movement, and proposed Borough Based Detention Plan

Flushing Point Plaza

The proposed project consists of three 19 story, mixed-use buildings are set to rise in downtown Flushing consisting of a residential and commercial complex spanning 550,465 square feet with two 19 story apartment buildings and a 19-story hotel at the former site of a warehouse. The first residential tower will include a 390-car garage and the second residential tower will host a 112-car garage on the ground floor. The first floor of the hotel will host a lobby and retail space, while the rest of the hotel will provide 472 rooms. The project is expected to be completed in three years.

Borough Based Detention Plan

NYC plans to build a new 1,150 bed joining every borough except Staten Island by 2026 as part of a 4 Billion dollar complex proposal to replace Rikers Island.

Willets Point Development

After nearly being derailed, this mega project is back on. The project will include 1,100 affordable apartments, while plans for a 200 store shopping mall have been scrapped. Current estimates for the project come in at 385 million dollars.

Sunnyside Yard

This is the city’s 19 billion dollar proposal to deck over exposed rail yards in Sunnyside to create a platform for parks, schools, retail, and thousands of new apartments.
